Microsoft Surface, the tablet, which will run on the yet-to-be released Windows 8 operating system, is software giant’s big attempt to grab a share of the tablet market, presently dominated by Apple’s iconic iPad and Samsung Galaxy series.
So, here we bring you things you must know about Microsoft Surface:
Weight and Thickness:
At 9.33mm in thickness, Microsoft Surface weighs 676 grams. The other variant of Microsoft surface weighs 903 grams and measures 13.5mm in thickness.
Screen Size:
Surface screen measures 10.6-inches with 16:9 widescreen featuring ClearType HD Display technology. The device also features ultra-wide angle for viewing.
The tablet’s screen can auto-adjust according to the light intensity either indoor or outdoor. Microsoft has kept the screen size same for both the variants.
OS and Processor:
Microsoft Surface will run on Windows RT and the device will be powered by ARM processor.
The other variant, which weighs 903grams, will run on Windows 8 Pro edition and will be powered by an Intel processor.
Camera:
Microsoft Surface sports two cameras called as LifeCam. The front-facing LifeCam can be used to make video calls and video chats while the rear-facing LifeCam which has been angled to 22 degrees lets users record various events by keeping Surface on Kickstand.
Keyboard:
Surface comes with a built-in Kickstand that lets users place their tablets vertically on a table. Both the variants of Microsoft Surface sport a keyboard and a trackpad protected by a 3mm thin, pressure sensitive cover called Touch Cover. Touch Cover will be available in five different colours.
Connectivity:
The version featuring Windows RT has connectivity options like microSD, USB 2.0, Micro HD video, 2×2 MIMO antennae, Office Home & Student 2013 RT.
The Windows 8 Pro version has microSDXC, USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort Videoand 2x2MIMO antennae. Both the devices also feature stereo speakers and dual microphones.
Storage and Battery:
The tablet running on Windows RT will pack 31.5W-h battery and is configurable to 32GB and 64GB, while Windows 8 Pro variant boasts of 42W-h battery and is configurable to 64GB and 128GB.
