Samsung has become the biggest competitor for Apple’s iPhone and iPad tablets. Fearing the increased demand and potential of the Samsung devices, Apple went to the extent of suing Samsung and seeking to stop sales worldwide. Samsung, as a move of defense, is seeking to ban the sale of iPhone 5. The company alleged that iPhones and iPad 2 have violated the multiple wireless technology patents it holds.
Galaxy S2, powered by Android 2.3, sports Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. It is coming with an 8-megapixel camera with Flash and can record HD video in 1080p offering the richest video content on a smartphone. All the three versions of Galaxy S2 will support 4G offering data speed four times faster than what the iPhone 5 will offer.
Though both the superphones are basking in the glory of hype, here are some basic reasons why Galaxy S2 will overpower iPhone 5.
Display: Galaxy S2 features a Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touch screen display. The Super AMOLED Plus is considered the best available technology for mobile displays. The RGB matrix makes the display sharper making the smaller texts clear. The Super AMOLED Plus display enhances readability, delivers superior color, slimmer form and better battery consumption than the previous generation phone. Its incredibly high resolution makes it definitely better than retina display, which powers the iPhone 5.
The Super AMOLED Plus display in Samsung Droid helped it become one of the best selling devices on Verizon, overtaking HTC Thunderbolt.
Galaxy S2 will come with a 4.3-inch screen through AT&T, while it sports 4.52-inch display through T-Mobile and Sprint.
Operating System: Apple’s upcoming operating system, iOS 5, which will power the iPhone 5, comes with features like notification bar, wireless syncing, cloud synchronizing, Widgets, Reminder system, Twitter integration, which are already existent in Android operating system, except for iMessage which is a copied feature from Blackberry. Android’s new OS, “Ice Cream Sansdwich” will be a single operating system across smartphones and tablets. It will bring all the interface excellence of Android Honeycomb to smartphones including updated app launcher, interactive and new home-screen widgets, holographic user interface and multi-tasking panel.
Apps and open source power: Though Apple has a huge App store, Android market has improved in quantity and quality and the biggest quality of the Android app store is most of its apps are free. Anyone can have access to the source of Android to better the system, but this doesn’t apply to iPhone 5 as its OS is not open source.
Processor: Galaxy S2 is powered by dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Mali-400MP GPU Orion chipset in the Sprint and the AT&T versions, while the T-Mobile version will be powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm APQ8060 processor. It is backed by 1 GB of RAM. The iPhone 5 comes is expected to come with iPad 2’s processor and it’s doubtful, if it will exceed 1.2 GHz barrier.
Near Field Communication: Samsung Galaxy S2 supports NFC chip that allows data exchange, simplified transactions and connections with a touch. iPhone 5 will not support NFC. With NFC in a smartphone or tablet, the device can be used to make credit card payment or serve as keycard or ID card. Globally, 100 million people use mobile payment outside the U.S., but only 3.5 million use the technology in the U.S.
Battery and Memory: Galaxy S2 comes with an expandable memory and a removable battery. Apple’s iPhone will not have removable storage. In terms of RAM memory, Galaxy S2 has an advantage with 1 GB RAM to match the dual core processor. “If the Galaxy S2 was used all the time, then a user will be lucky to get 10 hours of battery and that’s with the enhanced 1650 mAh battery widget on board,” according to Techradar.com review.
